Karen's Crossing~~~God Has Your Number

Luke 12:6-8New King James Version (NKJV) are not five sparrows sold for two copper coins?[a] And not one of them is forgotten before God. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not fear therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows.

Like the cars of a train sometimes they can go by so quickly you can lose count really fast. That is the way it feels like with my hair. It's falling out so quickly I have lost track of the count. Not that I was really trying to count in the first place but you get the point.

There's been many times I have been able to look at a fallen hair and chuckle that "there goes hair number 749."  As I look at this piece of paper full of what fell out tonight alone I see multiple numbers of counted hair by God himself. Counted because He promises He hasn't forgotten one piece of hair I ever had. He has my number and He has given me His.

Tomorrow I plan to go wig shopping and I know in my heart no matter what wig I buy its hairs have already been counted by God. The same with the three wigs tucked away in my hope chest from when I was twelve and had brain surgery. God had them numbered for that scared little girl and now for this woman.

Why is it so difficult to think God would do that for all of us. That its hard to imagine God setting a worth on us to the point He takes the time to number our hair. This is a promise from the book of Luke I have been holding on to one strand of hair at a time.

However, shame on me though to think the thought that its hard to believe God puts that much worth on us. He has always cared and valued us or He wouldn't have sent His Son Jesus in to rescue us from our sins. Truly a much bigger disease than cancer as it affects everyone.

Our hairs are numbered for a reason. All of our days are numbered for a reason. Cancer hasn't taken over, God is still in control. I'm glad He has my number. I'm glad I have worth in Him.

Winning for Jesus

“He who has no sense of self-importance cannot be offended or defeated.” W. Phillip Keller

I’m not sure where the author of this quote was coming from but in one light what he said looks like a good thing. Those who have no sense of self-importance cannot be offended or defeated. Sounds good, sounds strong. “I cannot be defeated nor offended by no one! I have no sense of self-importance.” Now that didn’t sound too good.

In a different light we can see this as those who have no sense of self-importance can’t be offended or defeated because they have already defeated themselves practically. If you have no concept of self-importance then you don’t care what people may say about you because you feel that way already. You can’t defeat something that isn’t trying to fight or win in the first place.

Whatever the reasoning for this statement it is important to find a balance in all this. We need to find that area in between the typical two extremes of having too much sense of self-importance and those who have none at all. An area in the middle where we know and realize we are all important. We should never think of ourselves more important than others but we definitely are more important than what Satan would like us think.

I’ve lived on the extreme at the bottom where my sense of self-importance wasn’t worth a hill of beans. Hill of beans? Back then they weren’t that expensive but now-a-days it may be worth a lot more. Ha ha. Back to the subject. I didn’t figure I was important enough to be beat. There was no defeating me because I had already defeated myself. I was playing the part of my own worse enemy. Latter I found out that the thumb that had me pinned down to the ground was attached to me.

Once again we need to bring ourselves back the middle and find our balance. When we do this we will be able to stand up against the schemes of the devil and win for Jesus instead. In Eph 6:13 it talks about putting on the armor of God in order for us to take our stand against the devil’s schemes. It goes on to say after we have done everything to stand then we need to stand firm with the armor of God in place.

In other words, we are without excuse if we are defeated. We’ve been defeated by our own powers, our own attitudes, our own foolish thinking and choices. God arms us with all we need to win and we need to take advantage of that and do so. If we are important enough for God we need to be important enough to ourselves to do all we can to win for Jesus.

God says; We say

“We deny Jesus every time we disregard His truth and put ourselves down. That hurts us. We deny Him every time we fail to see our value in Him. That hurts us. We deny Him every time we continue to hang on to our self-condemning thoughts and lies. That hurts us too. And then, it’s as if Jesus turns and looks straight at us with His eyes of love and compassion, and something dawns on us. We have, in a sense, denied our Lord Jesus, and I wonder if that hurts Him.” by Marilyn Hontz Shame Lifter

Remember back in the good old days of Peter just before Jesus was arrested. Strong and firm he told Jesus he would never deny the Christ but Jesus knew better. It had to of hurt. We read that story and strongly and firmly we shake our religiously minded heads and make a sound like a broken record, “Peter, Peter, Peter…..I would never do what he did. He flat out denied Christ plain and simple, nope not me, not me ever.” But Jesus knows better and it must hurt.

I don’t think we realize just how similar we are to Peter. Truth beknown, if we looked closely at our own actions we would probably find where we denied Christ a hundred times more than Peter ever did. We deny Christ every time we disregard His truth about us and put ourselves down on a regular basis failing to see our value in Him. How preposterous is that to hang on to our self-condemning thoughts and lies rather than exchange it for the truth in Christ that tells us how special we are to Him.

We become our worse critic and think in our feeble minds that the only person we are hurting is ourselves. Wrong! We are hurting Christ as well as we basically call Him a liar by contradicting what He has to say about us. Think about it, God said we were special enough for Christ to die for us. We say, “I’m not worth the air I breath.” God says, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” We say, “I’m not important enough to stick around for.” God says, “All things will work out for the good of those who love the Lord.” We say, “My love evidently isn’t good enough for God because nothing in my life seems to be working out.” God says, “I have chosen you.” We say, “There’s no way in the world we could ever make the team” and the list goes on and on.

It’s almost a slap in the faith to Jesus telling Him we’re not significant enough for the blood He shed for us. That it was just a squander of the time and nails it took to fasten Him to the cross bleeding for such a lost cause. Obviously we seem to think our judgement and concept of ourselves is much more accurate than what God’s view is.

We need to stop denying Christ and start to believe in what He has to say. His words are words that pertain to all those who are willing to listen. We have our bad qualities but we have our good ones too and that is what Christ is after. I was guilty once, okay maybe more than once, of putting myself down. I’ll always remember the time I did it in front of the wrong witness. Well maybe she was the right witness I needed at the time as I got myself a lecture. “Don’t talk about my sister in Christ like that!” she said to me very firm and strong. Oh dear, she wasn’t falling for my self-pity what was I going to do now!

Well, what we need to do now is get off the “pity me” wagon and jump on board with Jesus. It’s time to find the proper balance in our attitude. Playing the extreme cards and going too far to the right or left in our thinking will never do. We can’t be so full of ourselves that we never look for areas of improvement but we can’t be so down on ourselves we are worthless to ourselves and Christ. That’s not being humble its being destructive. Don’t kid yourselves; it’s got to hurt Christ to see us behaving in such a manner.

This last Sunday as my 8 year old granddaughter got dressed for church I told her she looked very pretty. Her reply to me was, “I don’t either I look ugly.” I asked her, “Who are you going to believe, me or you? The choice is yours.” The choice is ours, we can either believe what Jesus says or we can believe what we are saying.

In all reality the choice needs to be Jesus and that selection needs to be demonstrated in our attitude towards ourselves as well as others. No more denying, no more downgrade. It’s all upgrade from here with Christ.

God says, “I love you.” We say, “I know you do, I can tell. I love you too.”
