What an awesome thought to think about going from being in the prison of things on earth into a freedom where nothing in this world has a hold of our heart, soul, and mind. Wow, what a novel idea! No one in their right mind would turn down that opportunity.
Unfortunately that’s exactly what we do on a frequent basis
is turn down the opportunity to be truly free. Our idea of freedom is to be
free to do whatever we want whenever we want in spite of any consequences.
We don’t realize that by doing just that we have done the
opposite of finding freedom. We bind ourselves up in our own little prison cells.
Like the young child determined to be free to choose to smoke if they want
finds themselves later bound in the chains of lung cancer, emphysema, or other
lung problems.
True freedom comes from God and obedience to Him, freedom
from sin and the hold it creates on our heart, soul, and mind. It releases us from
that which we often attach ourselves to that cannot love us back, cannot free
us, nor save us from eternal destruction. Things such as sex, drugs, alcohol, money,
food, bad attitudes, and so much more that we frequently think offers so much.
We need to stop reading the graffiti on the prison walls
about how fun it was to get there, and how we have the right to do this and
that, and about how there is no way out once you are in. God is our way out, He
was the way to never enter but we failed to listen. It is through Him that true
lasting, eternal freedom is found. Don’t pass the chance to be “truly” free in
a freedom that will last forever.
