God's Eyes Are Upon Us

De 11:12 It is a land the Lord your God cares for, the eyes of the lord your God are continually on it from the beginning of the year to its end

The Israelites were making their way to the promise land when God made this promise to them. He told them He cared for the land He was giving them and that His eyes were going to be upon it from the beginning of the year to its end. To some that made a difference but to most of the Israelites they continued to grumble all the way to the promise land.

We are so much like our ancestors that it shouldn’t be any surprise we haven’t seen a behavior improvement after all these years. It doesn’t matter if we live in the city or out in the country God still cares for the land He has given us to live upon and so should we. Unfortunately our problem today is the fact we have gone from worshipping the Creator of the land to worshipping the land itself.

We have taken our eyes off the Creator yet expect His eyes to be still watching over us when it’s convenient for us. Yet when we want to do something He doesn’t approve of we act as if we expect Him to turn His back and not pay attention.

God never turned His back on the Israelites and He won’t with us either. He may give us over to our sins if we don’t behave ourselves but that isn’t turning His back on us. He may punish us for bad behavior but that isn’t turning His back on us either. We are the ones who have turned our back on Him and like the Israelites we can be heard grumbling all the way to the Promise Land.

The fact that God cares shouldn’t be taken advantage of. It should be a treasure or a treat to take with us into the Promise Land of Heaven as we enter His gates with thanksgiving and His presence with praise.

Drop the grumbling, pick up the praise! God’s eyes are upon us.
