Satisfied

“There is only one answer to our craving for more meaning or more purpose in life, and that is God himself.” Marilyn Meberg

Have you ever dealt with “cravings?” They can be pretty strong feelings that we just can’t seem to shake…. Shake! Doesn’t a good cold thick strawberry shake sound good right now? Yum, I think I’ll stop typing and make one. I’ll be back………NOT……just teasing!

The truth of it is we will deal with our food cravings and such that way. We so willingly drop everything we are doing just to satisfy our craving. Once the craving is satisfied we go on with life until the next craving.

Spiritually we are designed with a craving within us. Unlike my craving for a strawberry milkshake may not be the craving others would have but spiritually the craving is the same for all. We have built in us a desire for more meaning and more purpose in life. We try to find it in all the wrong places unlike my milkshake where I know exactly where to go to get the best there is.

We need to stop trying to satisfy our craving in all the wrong places and go to God himself to satisfy that which we are longing for. The yearning and hunger for a more meaningful and purposeful life, however, everything outside of God that we try offer only temporary fixes. Becoming rich, having a high paying job, being successful in your career all offer a temporary satisfaction that will never satisfy that inner desire God has placed inside of us.

The inner desire or craving that serves as a GPS system to guide us back to God where we find what we need to satisfy what we require. More meaning and purpose in life is found in serving others not ourselves. In following God’s calling not the one we have lined out for ourselves. Our purpose and meaning is in glorying God instead of ourselves. To pass on to the next generation what was passed on to us from hundreds of generations before us regarding God’s salvation plan and His love for us. It is to know we have worth in Christ, we have value in Him, and we are treasures in God’s eyes. Our purpose is to shine for Him and cultivate the relationship we can have with our Heavenly Father.

We need to treat our craving for meaning and purpose in God like we do our milkshake craving or whatever it is we crave by going after it passionately until we get what we are after. We would never let anyone stop us from getting our desired craved food and we should not stop at getting what we long for in our spiritual lives.

It’s important to recognize the craving for what it is. There are times we have that “craving feeling” in us and we don’t even know what it is we are craving food wise or spiritual wise. When we do we need to go out of our way to search for what it is our soul is longing for. It’s definitely nothing materialism can fill, it’s nothing we can do on our own, it has to come from God himself, the one who placed the craving there in the first place. Our desires being the GPS guidance system set up to draw us towards Him and His fulfillment of our longings.

What a blessing to know in God satisfaction is guaranteed for our spiritual cravings satisfied within His will not our own. It is something that can’t be beat. The milkshake quickly comes and goes with no guarantee that our craving will be completely satisfied. However, the fulfillment of our cravings or longings in God will be satisfied for all eternity. Praise the Lord!

Good thought, Karen, that our inner cravings function like a GPS signal to take us back to God who can satisfy all our needs.

blessings to you - Marsha
