A Reliable Source

“Relying on God has to begin all over again every day as if nothing had yet been done.” C.S.Lewis

Every morning as I rise earlier than the sun I rely on my car to get me to my next destination which is work. Once I arrive at my desk I rely on my computer to see me through the day until it’s my car’s turn again to be relied on. In spite of what may have happened with my car or computer last week or the month before I continue to rely on these as if nothing had happened the time before. If you think about it, daily we choose to rely on material things all around us that may or may not have always been so reliable in the past. I don’t know about you but my car hasn’t always been there for me and my computer likes to take a snoozer once in awhile and freezes up on me yet I continue to choose to rely on them on a day to day basis.

Daily we need to do the same with God, making that conscience effort each day to rely on Him. It shouldn’t depend on what yesterday was like or what we think tomorrow might bring. God is reliable and that is something we can count on each day.

Too frequently we think God has let us down because of something that may have happened. A death in the family, medical issues, lost jobs, family problems, natural disasters, tragedy’s caused by man, unanswered prayers, unfilled hopes. “Oh, God let me down the other day so I’m not going to rely on Him anymore,” is the thinking we allow Satan to plant in our heads.

Daily our computer or car can give us trouble yet we continue to choose to count on them but boy if God “let’s us down” one time we’re through with Him for good. “After all if He is so reliable then why did this happen to me,” is another planted thought in our head from Satan adding to the rainforest type of wrong thinking jungle in our minds.

We need to be like those people who appear to be out of touch with reality who look at everything with great thankfulness in their hearts. I was just teasing about them being out of touch with reality, well maybe. In today’s world it seems to be the reality, the truth that people are choosing to hang on to, to downgrade God instead of praising Him. To pick apart frequently His word to suit them instead of changing themselves to fit His Word, they grumble first and praise second. Unfortunately, it appears like the second part never comes. Not because God wasn’t reliable but because of a wrong attitude and focus on our part.

Perhaps we need to take the time to put to paper in our hearts our own song of praise like Psalm 104 that lists beautifully all that God has done and refer to it daily. It all begins with “Bless the Lord, O my soul! O Lord my God, You are very great,” and it ends with, “I will sing to the Lord as long as I live; I will sing praise to my God while I have my being. May my meditation be sweet to Him; I will be glad in the Lord….Bless the Lord, O my soul! Praise the Lord!”

It’s our choice. We need to be a singer not a squealer. A praiser and not a picker. Someone who is willing to see past Satan’s jungle and look intensely into the eyes and heart of the one thing in life we can rely on and that is God. A quality-like characteristic from our Heavenly Father that we need to develop in ourselves that God may be able to count on us. We can be like the car or the computer that can be counted on once in awhile or be like God and choose to be reliable to Him and His kingdom on a day to day basis not a situation by situation source.

A reliable source to a reliable God!

Such good illustrations for this quote, Karen. He is our reliable source and yes, we must rely on each and every day. Thank you for sharing your post today.

Ouch! Very true and convicting post. We trust the things that will always let us down, and then place the blame on our loving Father.

If not for His grace, I'm sure His patience with us would grow very thin indeed.

Thanks for this!

Oh, Karen, I hadn't even thought of how we rely on things that are proven to be unreliable. What a great take! Thank you for sharing.
