Choosing to Rely

July 7th quote for In "Other" Words

"Relying on God has to begin all over again every day as if nothing yet had been done."~ C.S. Lewis ~

Every day, whether we realize it or not, we make some sort of decision or choice to rely on something. At night we go to bed trusting and relying on the roof over our head. In the morning we rely on our water system to be there for our morning shower and coffee. As the morning progresses we step out of our home trusting our transportation system to take us where we need to go.

Though past experience has us a little wary whether we can have confidence in these things or not, we continue to rely on them. The coffee we think we can depend on to get us through the morning may not always do the trick, yet we continue to have faith in it that it will do what we feel it’s capable of doing.

Trusting and relying on the Lord on a daily basis should be treated no differently as we purposely make that choice each day. Making an effort in our hearts to choose that route before Satan makes the choice for us. Bypassing the temptation in our attitude and actions to pick and choose when or if we will rely on God for our daily needs.

As we would never purposely choose to miss our morning coffee that we rely on, we should never miss making the decision to rely on God. Making the bona fide effort to trust and depend on Him for the provisions of strength, direction, wisdom, companionship and so much more that He provides.

It doesn’t matter what yesterday was like, or what God has for us in the future. Reliance on the Lord is something that has to begin all over again every day as if nothing yet had been done as C.S. Lewis puts it. A deliberate act in our lives that leaves us a clear mental picture to focus on in our mind. While at the same time sending a strong message to Satan telling him to get lost, we are relying on the Lord this day and everyday in all areas of our lives.

Closing Thought: As much as some people would like to try and prove otherwise, God is reliable. Trustworthy for every promise He has ever made, faithful to every word He has ever spoken. The rest remains up to us to rely on our Heavenly Father, Lord and Savior the one who is worthy. Reflecting daily this selection in our attitude as well as our actions as we allow God to work within us, each day at a time.

Isaiah 50:10 “ Who among you fears the LORD? Who obeys the voice of His Servant? Who walks in darkness And has no light? Let him trust in the name of the LORD and rely upon his God. (NKJV)

The idea of needing to do our relying daily reminded me of manna and how the Israelites weren't to take more than a days supply. Blessings...

it really is about conscious thought - like you said about having your morning coffee and we don't often forget that!
