Real Needs and Genuine Prayers

Quote for June 22, 2007~~~"When there is little awareness of real need there is little real prayer" Donald S. Whitney Spiritual Disciplines for the Christian Life

It's interesting how we seem to have a hard time separating our real needs from what should be labeled as our "bona fide wants." Learning to become more aware of what our needs are and care enough for them to give them over to our Lord and Savior and leave them there.

We need to recognize and acknowledge our need for strength, guidance, discipline, and the wisdom it takes to stand up against our enemy the devil. Praying to the Lord on a daily basis for these things as we seek Him for all He has to offer us in those areas and so much more.

Too often we take for granted the provision God supplies us with. We seem to think we don’t need to do anything to care for ourselves that’s God’s job. It is what He does as our Heavenly Father but we need to do our part as well. Not neglecting the legitimate and true communication that needs to happen between the Lord and us.

Instead of using our typical “instant messaging” system that comes at our convenience we should be approaching the throne of grace with genuine heartfelt prayers. Not only regarding our needs but also with our words of praise, worship and thanksgiving to Him as well.

Closing Thought: Our biggest need, the one that is often overlooked the most, is our need for our Lord and Savior. A hole in our heart built in that only He can fill no matter how hard we try to pack it with something else. We need to do as Christ instructed in Matthew 6:33, “Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.” (NKJV)
